Is It Ok to Give Your Child a Unicycle?
A parent who often takes his child to the park or circus may not be concerned when she sees a unicycle running about. But what if you’re a parent whose child suddenly wants to try what he sees and asks for a unicycle? Surely, it would be hard to put down such a request, especially if it came from a child who is at the peak of curiosity. Before you hit the local bike store there are a few things you need to consider first.
Your child needs to understand that riding a unicycle is different from riding a conventional bicycle; it requires more skills and balance. And as a parent, you need to be with your little tyke every time he roams around the park or street on his unicycle. Though constant practice will eventually make him a better rider, the time you may need to invest for that to happen can be quite long. This can eat a lot of your time and obstruct other household obligations.
There many places where you can buy a good unicycle. Check the web for reputable dealers and stores. Before you decide on a store, though, make sure you’ve done enough research on how to choose a high quality unicycle and on safety rules. Another thing you have to consider is that unicycles are not cheap. The price for a beginner’s unicycle can be as high as three hundred dollars. You must remind your child to stick with what he wants, if you decide to continue with your purchase.
